Reference Librarian (Part-Time)

Job Description: The Plainfield Public Library located in Plainfield, NJ seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, service-oriented librarian to provide reference assistance, including phone and email reference, and other duties as assigned.

Hours: 8-11 regular hours per week, plus occasional shift cover up to a total not exceeding 20 hours. Two Evenings per week and 3 Saturdays per month required. Weekday scheduling is usually based around evening shifts, but occasional daytime availability and schedule flexibility may be required.

The successful candidate may also be offered additional regular grant-funded hours for other library programs at other rates of compensation. (Accepting such offers, if made, will be entirely at the discretion of the candidate.)

Qualifications: MLS or MLIS from an ALA accredited program; strong public service orientation; strong computer skills; working knowledge of a wide variety of electronic databases and technology applications; excellent communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Fluency in Spanish is desired but not required.

Compensation: This is a part-time position. $23.12/hour.

Library Associate - Bilingual Spanish (Part-Time)

Job Description: The Plainfield Public Library located in Plainfield, NJ seeks an energetic, knowledgeable, service-oriented library associate to provide ready reference assistance, including dealing with phone and email inquiries, and other duties as assigned. The Library Associate will work as part of a Reference and Information team to handle patron inquiries and requests satisfactorily and in a timely and efficient manner. To this end the position is usually supported by professional library staff w hen available, but the Library Associate may sometimes have to undertake the receipt of more complex inquiries themselves, liaising with team members when they become available, to provide an effective service as required.

Hours: 8 regular hours hours per week, plus occasional shift cover up to a total not exceeding 20 hours. The anticipated schedule is based around a morning or afternoon shift pattern over two days, but occasional additional availability and schedule flexibility may be required.

The successful candidate may also be offered additional regular grant-funded hours for other library programs at other rates of compensation. (Accepting such offers, if made, will be entirely at the discretion of the candidate.)
