Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Gethsemane Church
522 East Seventh Street
The Gethsemane Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized May 18, 1901. It was then known as the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church. The cornerstone for the first church structure was laid in 1913 on East Seventh Street, and the church opened in 1915. During the early years, services were in Swedish; this slowly changed over to English during the 1930s. In the 1950s, the church moved into a new structure at East Seventh Street and Marshall Place.

The cornerstone of the Church was laid on July 27, 1902 at the corner of West Sixth and New Streets. On November 30, 1902, the first services in the new building were carried out in English, and then repeated in Swedish that evening. In 1963, the church sold the building to Community Church of God and moved to a new building on Park Avenue in South Plainfield, changing their name to Pilgrim Covenant Church.
