Business Center

Due to COVID-19 the Library's full building and services are not yet available. However, a limited number of "Business Center" services are now available for in-person use.

Computer Use, Copying, Faxing, Printing, and Scanning

The Library will be providing LIMITED in-person services for computer use, copying, faxing, scanning, and printing from 10AM-12PM and 2PM-4PM, Monday-Friday, by appointment only. Appointments are limited to a maximum of 45 minutes, and each user is allowed one session per day. To make an appointment contact the Service Desk at 908-757-1111 x113. Sessions are a total of 45 minutes. Patrons that arrive late for their appointment will have a shorter session. The Business Center is only open to the person using the computers or equipment. No children or additional persons will be allowed in the building.

Use of the copier, scanner, and fax-machine is also available on a walk-in basis for 15 minutes at a time on a first-come, first-served basis. If the equipment is in use, patrons will wait outside the building until the equipment is available.

In-person services are SELF-SERVICE ONLY. Staff will not be able to provide hands-on assistance. Computer assistance will be VERY LIMITED and via remote methods only at this time.

  • Computer Use: 2 stations are available for a maximum of 45-minutes. One session per person, per day.
  • Copying: $0.30/pp for B&W & Color. The copier accepts coins and small bills ($1 & $5).
  • Faxing: Normal Fax Rates apply. Debit/Credit only, pre-paid cards are not available for purchase.
  • Printing: FREE (10 pages per person per day, B&W and color).
    Printing is also available via Curbside Service if you don't need to use a computer. You can submit your print documents via our online form and they will be printed and provided to you via our Curbside Service. B&W and color printouts are available but there is a limit of 10 pages per person per day. Additional pages cannot be printed at this time.
  • Scanning: FREE (copyright rules must be obeyed).

Masks must be worn by patrons and staff at all times while in the Library Building. Individuals that refuse to wear a mask will not be allowed in the building and patrons will be asked to leave if they do not wear their mask appropriately while in the building.

The public restrooms are NOT AVAILABLE at this time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to wear a mask while using the Business Center?

Yes. Staff and patrons must wear masks appropriately at all times while in the Library building. If you cannot wear a mask due to medical reasons we suggest you partake in our Curbside Service. If you need additional services or if you have a question about this policy please contact the Assistant Director at 908-757-1111 x132.

What if I don't have a mask?

A limited number of disposable masks are available, courtesy of the City of Plainfield, for patrons that don't have one. These masks are ony for those using the Business Center and are available until supplies last.

Can I bring my child(ren) or a another person(s) to the Business Center with me?

Not at this time. The Business Center is only open to the person using the computers or equipment. No children or additional persons will be allowed in the building.

What if I don't want to come in to the building?

The Library's Curbside Service is available for material pickup, and you can submit documents for printing via this online form (up to 10 pages per person per day) and then pick them up outside as part of the Curbside Service. The staff cannot provide copying, faxing, or scanning services for the public at this time.

What services are available in the Business Center?

What if I need to print more than 10 pages?

We are not able to allow more than 10 pages of printing per person per day as we are not handling monetary transactions at this time.

Will you be able to help me use the computer?

Staff are not able to provide in-person assistance at this time. Staff will be on hand to deal with technical issues but will not be able to do one-on-one instruction or assistance. All in-person services are self-directed at this time.

Can you help me copy/fax/print/scan?

Can you make change for the copier?

The copier accepts coins and small bills ($1 & $5). Staff are not able to make change as we are not handling monetary transactions at this time.

What if I don’t have a Plainfield library card or I forgot it?

The staff will be able to provide you a guest pass and log you in remotely. A Plainfield library card is not required at this time. If you are a Plainfield resident and you would like to sign up for a card you can do so here.

Can I stay for more than 45 minutes if no one is waiting?

Not at this time. Staff need to clean stations and equipment in-between users and no extensions are allowed.

What if I don't want to make an appointment, can I still use the Business Center?

Same day appointments may be available, but are not guaranteed. Please contact the Library at 908-757-1111 x113 BEFORE visiting, to verify that space is available.

Will I be able to use the restrooms?

The public restrooms are not available at this time. Hand sanitizer will be available for individuals who are using the Business Center.
