Growing Together:
The Plainfield Public Library Community Seed Library
The Plainfield Public Library and Dreaming of Blooms are proud to introduce the Community Seed Library—a new initiative rooted in collaboration, education, and environmental care. Located at the heart of our community, this project is more than just a collection of seeds; it’s a living resource designed to empower residents to grow their own food, beautify their spaces, and reconnect with nature. Visitors are welcome to stop by the library and select up to TWO seed packets—no library card required. Whether you’re a lifelong gardener, just starting out, or somewhere in between, there’s something here for everyone. Some seeds thrive in garden beds, while others can be grown on windowsills or balconies—so you can pick what works best for your space and lifestyle.
Our Community Seed Library offers free access to a diverse selection of seeds, including herbs, vegetables, flowers, and—most notably—native plants. Native varieties are an important part of the garden, chosen for their ability to support local wildlife and thrive in our environment with minimal intervention. These plants require less water, fewer chemical treatments, and help attract essential pollinators like bees, butterflies, and birds. By planting them, we help strengthen local ecosystems and preserve biodiversity.
To support your gardening journey, we’re also sharing gardening resources below, including information from environmental groups, agricultural experts, and community organizations. These partners provide valuable guidance on everything from composting and soil health to pollinator protection and sustainable landscaping. We encourage you to explore, learn, and connect.
Together, we can plant seeds of change—right here in Plainfield.
